Re-visiting KTGSS on the morning of BB2010

Hi Wilfred,

We discussed about the possibility of visiting KTGSS. We know it is Chinese New Year and the school will be closed. I know you have access to the Principal  and I am sure you can work your magic to get the school open and hopefully some classrooms (our) in the first block opened for us.

Hello, anybody interested ?

  14. Wilfred,

You are brilliant. I know you can work your magic. I whole heartedly agree with you to give something to the KTGSS PTA. If I am not mistaken, it was started in 1975.

    Cheers.

  17. Hi Ted & all ex-townians,
I really do not know when the KTGSS Parents-Teachers Association (now known as PIBG SMK Bandar Kuching No.1)started.In those days ('70s)even with PTA,the involvement of parents was dismal because of hardship & education level of most parents at that time.On the subject of raising some funds from ex-townians during BB2010 for the present PIBG committe to carry small upgrade of the school facilities,I definitely support this great proposition. If the BB organising committe agrees,I will ask Puan Isabella Wong to get us a "Milo Donation Tin" and we place it somewhere during BB and any amount of ringgit donated can do.I am very sure the PIBG would appreciate us trying to raise funds for them. The present PIBG is headed by Mr.Chong Nam Fah(also an ex-townian)with the support of a team of dedicated Principal(Mr.Bong Jin Fui),Assistant Principals (Puan Poh,Isabella Wong),Teachers (Mr.Tan Hun Seang & others)and of course the many parents. They have been working very hard to raise money to enhance school facilities as many of them are still those of the early '70s.We must remember that allocation from the ministry to upgrade facilities is small compared to the size of the present school. In 1970,we have 171 students and present students population is over 2000.And we have more than 10,000 alumni spread over the world. The new science block(next to the school hall)was burnt down more than 3 years ago but up to now has not been rebuilt due lack of funds from the government. At that time,my daughter was doing her SPM,and end up without a science laboratory to use.My poor Girl!!!

  18. Hi Wilfred,

I was wrong when I assumed 1975 when I was scanning the 1975 Bujangga. KTGSS PTA was first discussed on the 9 October 1974 and held inaugural meeting on the 11 November 1974. According to the Director of Education, it was the first PTA in Sarawak . Another first for KTGSS.
I think we should have 'Pioneers of KTGSS for PTA Cookie Jar' We should not call ourselves Pioneers for nothing !!
    Cheers.

  19. Townians,
You are most welcome to visit the school. Please let us know your plans and we will be here to welcome you.

  20. Hi Ms Isabella,

Welcome to the blog. I am looking forward to the visit on the 17 February 2010. Is it possible to just open one of the classroom ? I would like to see how much I have out grown the furniture !! There furniture should be standard editions, our furniture of 40 years ago were long gone !!
We have started Wilfred's proposition for the 'Milo Donation Tin' .....

By the way, is "Once A Townian, Always A Townian!" the school's motto?

    Cheers

  21. Bravo Siong Moh. We know we can count on you. Ted, I like you proposition too about the see if we still fit into the table and chair!

Milo tin, good idea; I'm sure KTGSS is very close to our heart. With more than 160 attending, I'm sure we can gather a bit to chip in for the new building. Ted, thanks for taking the lead in the donation.

  23. Hi Townians,
Since permission has been granted by Ms Poh Meng Eng & Ms Isabella Wong to visit our Alma Mater(KTGSS but now known as SMK Bandar Kuching No.1),shall we meet at the school compound at 9.00am on 17th February,2010 especially for those interested to join.I also take the opportunity to thank Ms Poh M E & Ms Isabella W for allowing acesss to the school especially for those coming from overseas and the many townians who have never step into the school since leaving in the 1970s.

  24. Good job Siong Moh. A big thank you to Ms Poh Meng Eng & Ms Isabella Wong for the permision granted to visit our shao lin temple. Thank you and may god bless all of you.

  25. Mr.Sim, our Pengetua,Mr Bong Jin Fu extends his warmest greetings and welcomes you all. You are free to walk-about, to any old haunts[maybe re-enact old stunts hmm..], school blocks or the entire area. One pioneer said he only saw the school from the road all these 35 years. All the more for you to ASK,and you shall be given...
Let us know if there is any other room[we normally lock them during the holidays] that your group wants to see. Personally, i am glad to assist coz i am on-duty you see.. Jumping on to the bandwagon with the Pioneers' Le Tour de Kuching Town, may give me further insight of what students in the past[or now] would be up to. Socrates said students then and now, in his time and present time, will show the same traits, haha I wonder... Please drop by to pick the cd our last year's fifth formers compiled, think you have seen it before. Or call me before u come?

  26. Hi Siong Moh....

Very touch by the gesture the team at SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 is offering to take us the pioneers of KTGSS on Pioneers'Le Tour Kuching Town. It will always be KTGSS in our hearts no matter what it is called now.Our beloved KTGSS! Proud to be one of them.

i was hoping to get on to the tail-end of the bandwagon... Feel free to move around. Sim SM is very familiar with the current setting so reckon he knows where u guys and gals wish to go.
    Jamel,
Come, with rubber boots, but not to clean toilet coz we have a private contractor to carry out area maintenance. Perhaps you would like to clean the Lata Indah@waterfall at Block B...

  32. To the Principal & Working Committee of KTGSS PTA,

I would like to propose that a bigger portion of the donation be used for the education of those poorer students. This would make them a better person when they leave school to search for greater heights and god willing they would one day help the KTGSS PTA to help others.

I am sure this generous donation from the pioneer group would also continue to donate in many years to come.

And as for the building of the school, let the government be responsible for the comfortable facilities the students deserve.
    Do you all agree?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Puan Poh, your students are so lucky to have private contactors to do the housekeeping. Jealous, saya...our time we took turns to clean the toilets. I heard the canteen "kopi tiam" serves good breakfast. After the tour,we would like to "inspect" the food.No worries I belanja
my colleagues and the hosts. If canteen close than we go to the stalls nearby. Thanks, you are so kind for accommodating us.

LAU POH LING(LAWLING) USED TO RIDE THE ''GOH TAN'' KHA CHIA...hehe...IT WAS SO FUNNY...EVERYBODY WAS LAUGHING AT HIM WHEN THE FIRST TIME HE RODE THAT BIKE TO SCHOOL...A SMALL SIZED BOY RIDING A BIG BICYCLE...hehe...

    ALSO REMEMBER THE MINI BIKE?

REMEMBER GUYS...WINNIE TING RIDING THE SPORT BIKE...SHOWING OFF HER SEXY THIGH?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Thomas, you seems to be corrupted by the Incredible Hulk, the stylist and me the blah-blah guy. I thought the word "sexy" is banned in this blog !! Welcome to the club. Joo remember Jamel as that skinny dark hockey stick boy...indirectly an ugly boy.Well that did not stop this boy to admire that sexy thigh. Guan Teck, I thought you are the greatest admirer of this cyclist ?? Is this correct ? Its time to make a confession.

Cheers guys, my Chinese friends do have a good reunion dinner tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thomas & Jamel,

I cannot remember the 'sexy' cyclist riding the sport bike. Mind you, I read somewhere in the blog that she is still 'sexy'.
Talking about bikes , yes I remembered Peter Liew had a red mini bike, an envy for many of us. I can also remember that a group of us , Peter Liew, our 'sexy' cylist, Rosalind Pang, Peggy Chu, Albert Kho and a few more I cannot remember, cycled to Matang Waterfall, it was gravel road then. We were on our normal bikes except Peter. We arrived there tired and 'grey' hair from the dust from passing vehicles. Peter brought Coca Cola bottles in his big white mini bike bag. Wow, in those days who can afford bottled drinks, Coca Cola somemore not the 'Aeroplane' ones. He chilled in the coolwater of Matang stream and of course they were only for the girls !! We guys can only looked with 'green eyes' and quenched our thirt with the natural water ... soobs.... Peter, you had ways with gals then ....
Can anyone cycle to Matang Waterfall now?
Jamel, I believe we admired a few and when we spent time training/playing badminton together, wow it was like your best time then ....

    Cheers.

  39. Hi Jamel,
Although I was one year senior than Ted at KTGSS,I certainly concurred with you that he was one of the greatest admirers of the 'sexy cyclist'.You know some of his seniors were a bit jealous at that time.Ted,if I could remember,so could you...men!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hahaha, I don't know that you guys are really admiring sexy cyclists of KTGSS of the seventies..

    ReplyDelete
  41. to the guys who admitted ogling at sexy cyclists of the 70s,
i just came back from car-ride in town. While watching the fireworks along the way, there were many cyclists tonight. They wore helmets, thigh-huggies and had lots of light reflectors on bikes, helmets and attire. Can't help wondering[interest aroused!] how sexy it was in the 70s.. So far, it is only the hunks@admirers commenting, what about the gals' comment eh?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Puan Poh, it is better NOT to ask the girls for comment...the boys have done it on themselves eg,
    1. The kungfu boys aka the "spare ribs" from Ted.
    2. The skinny dark skin hockey stick look alike
    3. Kacang kurus...said HHH.

If the sanity check is done by one of the girls...claiming there was not a single hunk during the seventies...alamak our ego will be deflated. So don't ask, let the boys enjoy their ego trip.

Girls you agree.....or you have a different view ? Lu lang pun oe admirers....si ka ? Share-share lah with us !!! It is save, the "boys" at this age are harmless.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jamel,
You guys are incorrigibly funny la.. You are right.. the guys have to remain 'boosted'. At least Thomas Koh was most honest the other day. He didn't bat an eyelid while admitting that he did have a crush or two in lower form[which any warm-blooded normal male would eh]. As for Sim SM, he was in his usual cool stoic style, just grinned...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ted,we knew each other since primary one....no secret between the two of us. I am concerned and need to ask you this. When we spoke of the sexy cyclists......how come you don't remember "that" lady cyclist, instead you spoke very passionately about Peter Lim ? My friend are you still straight ? ..... nanti I takut nak sit next to you during the BB. Knock-knock, Peter where are you my good friend ?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hi, Guys

I'll be waiting for you guys & gals at the school gate on the morning of 17.02.2010 @ 9.00am.

......another great news for Form 3 EARTH...I've found PETER LIEW, he's in KL....I've spoken to him about the BB2010 and he was really very excited but he says he cannot make it....he's still in Alor Setar, the in-law's house....he syas he would have come back if he was informed earlier....he'll be coming back this coming 'souls day' in April and I arrange for the get together

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Anthony,David & Townians,
Thomas Lai Hua San is now attached to Hong Leong Bank,Miri branch. He can't make it to BB,as he will be in KL.And Sim Cho Joo is now residing in Singapore and has no plan to come back to Kuching.

  48. Hi Jamel, my 'lau peng eu', I'm back after a few days off with the family, with my brothers and their family all back and what not.
Hey, I did not say I cannot remember the 'sexy cyclist' , who could? I said I cannot remember her riding a sports bike, only remembered us in our normal bikes except Peter Liew, cycling to Matang waterfalls. Didn't we all admire all the sexy legs. Haha I am still as open as a book. You can always count on me.
Wilfred, I certainly could not remember anything like the seniors were jealous. Maybe we ought to get our 'sexy cyclist' to comment. Hello, where are you ? You have been very silent.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ted,good to hear from you after days of silence.
Ok then, I will remove my "back" armour from my bag and sit next to you.....playback of our 46 years record will take a long time.If we are lucky, we will get that cyclist to sit next to us.Well....we can always dream.
