Big Bash a Big Blash

Good morning People! I went home from BB2010 reunion dinner early in the morning with an aching feet due to too much standing and walking and I have no regrets as it was all worth it! Thanks to Ted Yong for arranging the fantastic dinner at such a fantastic venue..thanks also to all who made an effort to be present to make the re-union a real success..especially to Lau Hui Kiong, Joo Sim and Anthony Chan who flew all the way from Canada, Hongkong and Kuala Lumpur just to be with us and our "Miss Chong" who came down from Sibu. The reunion was not just greetings and hugs among ex-classmates and ex-schoolmates but also among the teachers who had not seen each other since retirement or some other reasons such as posted elsewhere.

Mr. Wong Sze Yong who gave a speech on behalf of the teachers was very inspiring...I can see he was very proud to see many successful pioneer Kuching Townians...doctors, PhD, engineers, lawyers, consultants and journalist [that's me..hehehe]. I've covered a lot of official functions as a journalist and I heard many speeches on SCORE [Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy] made by our Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, federal ministers as well as state ministers who targetted on younger generation to get ready for the full development of SCORE come 2030 where an estimate of 1.6million jobs will be up for grabs. Much to my surprise our beloved teacher Mr. Wong apparently was more optimistic than any of these politicians for he targetted at his "50 years old" ex-students to contribute to the development of SCORE NOW. This showed how much our teachers believe in us, how proud they are of us, how much confidence they have in us to go help develop the state.

Personally, I felt it was a swell gathering all worthwhile those evening meetings the committee held at coffee-shops, eateries etc. Btw, I did not complete my duty as Secretary because I did not prepare the last minutes....hehehehehe..

Please feel free to leave your comments on BB2010 and I might quote some in my write-ups for the newspaper. What is/are your opinions on the importance of such re-unions? What was/were your greatest moments at BB2010?

For me, I was very happy to see Irene Tan coming to the re-union alone..her late husband Sim Khee Tee [pioneer 1] was one of the enthusiastic committee member looking forward BB2010.

There was SALLEH! I know Salleh very well when he was the Press Secretary for Dato Sri Adenen Satem and YB Bolhassan Di and I even had his hp no. saved in my hp and yet never knew he was my schoolmate! Imagine my surprise when he showed up last night [thought he was accompany his Townian wife or something]

And there was our clown..sorry..can remember his name..he had the stage all to himself and tried to play the keyboard on the chairs...

Great evening! and thanks to ALL OF U WHO MADE IT HAPPENED!!!!!

Parent-Teacher Association of KTGSS

Dear Pioneers of KTGSS (1970-1972),

Wilfred Sim Siong Moh have come up with a brilliant idea that we should have a 'Cookie Jar' for the PTA of KTGSS. This fund is to help to enhance the School facilities, help the needy students or anything they deem fit to improve.
It is fun to organise our BB2010 and raise some funds for ourselves, it is also timely we as Pioneers to do our small part to contribute back to our School as a token for who we are today ....
I will start the ball rolling with RM1000.00  In the spirit of giving for the coming Chinese New Year 2010, your kind and generous support will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

You know Uncle Fatt Khiong is left handed, he calls you pondan now, you ' lin ting tiong' with him  and made a few coins from him, you played rugby .....

Ok, here's the photo of the Rugby team of 1971 & 1972 .... which one is you ? Or are we wrong again ?

KTGSS is 40 years old this year ...

Pioneers 1,

40 years ago, you guys created history and opened the dawn of a new era .....

I am proud to be associated albeit one year later.

Cheers

Re-visiting KTGSS on the morning of BB2010

Hi Wilfred,

We discussed about the possibility of visiting KTGSS. We know it is Chinese New Year and the school will be closed. I know you have access to the Principal  and I am sure you can work your magic to get the school open and hopefully some classrooms (our) in the first block opened for us.

Hello, anybody interested ?

Email from Tony Teo Yang Peng to Ms Sim Hwang Joo

From: Tony Teo [mailto:tteo@parade.vic.edu.au]
Sent: Thursday, January 28, 2010 7:11 PM
To: Joo SIM (BDCI)
Subject: thankyou

Dear Joo,
Thank you for making the effort to contact me. We must catch up when you
are in Melbourne. School starts tomorrow. It is not possible for me to
organize leave this late. With my senior position and leadership
responsibility it is hard to just pack up and go at this early stage of
the school year

. I was asking  Roland and Mavis Kueh in January 2009 about reunions.
There seems to be small groups of reunion when people return for home
visits and in the last 28 years I had made many of those. It was
thrilling to see the large group of people that had responded to this
reunion. Today I felt strange and emotional all day. 40 years! (My
memories are failing me and as I looked at the long guest list I can
pick out some familiar names. I am never one for names even though I am
a teacher.) That is a long tine! I am surprised that function is on a
Wednesday and not on a Saturday. Now that my name is hopefully on a list
somewhere, I will get earlier contacts for future functions. Hopefully
it is not another 40 years.

I have just finished my summer vaccation during which my mum and sister
were visited. I am planing to take them to China end of March and on the
way back I hope to spend a few days in kuching. I hope to catch up with
some of my pen-yu then. In September/October we are taking our two
younger children to Europe to visit my wife's relatives in Germany. As
an artist i would like to see Paris and Rome as well.

I have been teaching  visual arts for 24 years. I now have 4 childrens,
(the last time I saw Joo, I had only a baby). My oldest son Luke is in
4th year melbourne Uni, my daugher, Emily is joining him this year,
David is in year 10 (form 4) and Naomi is in Form 1. My wife of 25 years
is working as a hospital scientist. Helena have been to Kuching a couple
of times in the 80s and 90's. All my children have been to Kuching one
time or another.

I hope that the reunion is a success and that it would be a grat time
for all to reminisce.

Regards,

Tony (Yang Peng- a name not used much in the last 29 years.)
