Parent-Teacher Association of KTGSS

Dear Pioneers of KTGSS (1970-1972),

Wilfred Sim Siong Moh have come up with a brilliant idea that we should have a 'Cookie Jar' for the PTA of KTGSS. This fund is to help to enhance the School facilities, help the needy students or anything they deem fit to improve.
It is fun to organise our BB2010 and raise some funds for ourselves, it is also timely we as Pioneers to do our small part to contribute back to our School as a token for who we are today ....
I will start the ball rolling with RM1000.00  In the spirit of giving for the coming Chinese New Year 2010, your kind and generous support will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

  7. Dear Townians,

The role of the PTA(PIBG) is to take care of the welfare of the students. Government schools are given allocations and I believe those of you working in the govt department will understand that the allocations are very structured and as such we have to spend according to the guidelines.
The PIBG has been giving incentives (cash and gifts) to students who excel in public exams (PMR, SPM and STPM) and co curricular activities.
The PIBG is able to provide extra fans, curtains to classes. Last year PIBG was responsible for upgrading the school library to fully air-con and computerized system.
The PIBG also provides financial aids to poor with potential students. In fact some of the AJK took it upon themselves with personal monthly donations to ensure certain students complete Form Six.
It is our hope to construct a walkway from the school compound to the roadside to provide the students shelter from the rain.
All these projects are not covered by the allocated government fund.
Please do not be confused that we are trying to raise fund to rebuild our Block C destroyed by fire in 2007. This matter is in the hands of the Ministry.
Be assured that PIBG funds will be spent wisely for the benefits of the students.
Thank you for your support and generosity!

  9. pssst.. Thomas Koh,
Tell u a secret about Sim SM... I do remember some time ago in the first Townian Nite 2009 we asked him to sing. He said he can't do it but would, if the hat is passed around and that the audience can bear to hear him sing. Mind you, our dear Mr Sim was one of the prime movers of that event and so is also a stalwart like u in setting up the Pioneers. He was right behind me on stage that nite and mind you, he can sing. With gusto too!!! The song was THOSE WERE THE DAYS...
    Sim SM,
i know you would go the extra mile for KT always, so i feel i have to 'bodek' u laa...

  10. Ya.... I agree with Isabella about the fund meant for especially the under previledge or poor students and maybe other neccesaties for the the extra curriculums. May I ask how is the progress to rebuilt that sience block.. Funny it is been 2+ years and still yet no respond from the Education Ministry (State or Ministry?).. May I suggest that PTA (PIBG) write a petition to the relevant MP/ Senator or assemblyman concerned to further persude to rebuild the block in the cabinet meeting and do a little pubilcity about this matter in the newspaper to attract attention. Maybe request TV3 to do an interview about such situation,...Karam Sigh might be interested ..who knows.. Effort man..!!! ..but no Stand Demonstration ya...hehehee... joking only.. Imagine seeing guys like siong Moh, Ted, FK, Davvid & other holding placards and shouting 'REBUILD',...REBUILD... (remember not "REFORM,...REFORM" hahahaha--we don want to attract "back" attention...)... sori no offence

HEY, THANKS FOR THE TIP...YOU KNOW, SIONG MOH IS A VERY HUMBLE PERSON...HE DOESN'T SHOW OFF HIS TALENT UNLESS HE'S CORNERED ALREADY...NICE TO WORK WITH HIM IN THIS PROJECT...WILL ASK HIM TO SING ON THE BB NITE.

  12. Hi Puan Poh & Thomas,
I really do not know how to sing.On that night,I was supposed to sing but the song sounded like reading the song from the given piece of paper. So,please do not ask me to sing during BB2010.I have arranged for my good friend,Patrick ST Sim to belt out Mandarin & English songs during BB.

  13. Anonymous H3,
So grateful that you have the issue of rebuilding the burnt block close to your heart. Really appreciate you! The late Deputy Education Minister, Datuk Razali sent his special assistant to our school. After his demise, there was news that state JKR had called for tender. As we all know that govt projects will take time, we keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime our school has adjusted the remaining 2 junior science labs by giving priority tothe pure science classes. Also the fact that the present pure science syllabus calls for coursework, helps coz the juggling of lab usage is divided between practicals and theory, which is done in classroom. Like the Nuffield syllabus in the 80s...
    Sim SM,
Ok ok, rest assured i won't give you stress. Nanti myself kena tindakan tatatertib for pressuring 'student' hehe.. Getting your friend Patrick is a smart idea! Doesn't matter who sings but the fact is that you pioneers are certainly going to have fun re-living memories and catching-up-on-each-other news. Personally far better than the Townians' nite which took up so much time, energy and protocol(not forgetting the unplanned surprise drop-in by the ahli politikus@indon word for politician)[shiver!]

  14. Hi Puan Poh,
I am very glad that you posted the update on the burnt down ssience block. This will give townians a better understanding on the progress of the project.Lastly, thanks for not requesting me to sing during BB2010,otherwise townians will throw at me whatever they can get hold..!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Siong Moh,
Giving the latest update as an 'insider' is not my cup of tea but more of allaying public fears that SMKBKno1 aka KTGSS is forgotten by the govt. The current economic slowdown isn't a reason to delay rebuilding, that is a fact. We hope there is a guardian angel among the state JKR(?) or the relevant levels in the govt machinery to ensure the new building comes up as scheduled. Hello, hello, any one out there can rouse the antenna on the new block??
You say townians will throw things at u.. [wicked grin here], it would be good if they chuck shoes coz we can pick them up and sell at the Jalan Gambier flea market. This lao amu here can bring many baskets for that night; better than you singing hoh..

  16. Thomas and Siong Moh,
i went through Anthony Chan's essay. Seems the rooms that you guys used are still around except the recreation, drafting and Industrial Arts rooms. Probably due to space constraints and not in syllabus this century... Our pengetua has instructed us to open the rooms, hall, resource centre@library and any other during your visit. Cheerio!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Puan Poh,
You are right. Our classrooms(Pioneers1),were on top(1st Floor)of the present Principal's office and staff office block.During our time, the library was next to the recreation room(table-tennis),and the latter for more space might have been absorbed into the library.

  19. David Law,
Adrenaline flowing, faces flushed, shoes newly-polished, pants and shirts pressed, ladies gowns spanking new, a generous dollop of Brylcreem for the guys, Amami or 3 Maidens powder for the gals, then off u go... to school on the 17th morning. The BIG DAY is just hours away! Though i am not in the 'gang' but as Siong Moh said, the blog is a good tool to disseminate info and
express yourselves. Reading the comments as of late gives me a sense of bewilderment, insight into your past and to a certain extent, envy at the pioneers camaraderie throughout the past 40 years. Bravo! to the 'groundsmen' ie. Ted, Leezwee, Thomas, S Moh, for making the reunion a reality, and the frequent bloggers with their witty comments. Also the valuable photos, some of which made me roll on floor laughing/ROFL; facebook lingo that i learnt from my present-day students...

  20. Hi Ms Poh,

You have been a revelation and I must thank you and Ms Isabella on behalf of the committee of BB2010 for the insight of what has happened and to what is happening in KTGSS. Thanks to IT, we are able to gather so many of us Pioneers, Teachers and students to get together in such a short time.
I remember my first day in KTGSS on a January day in 1971 - what a shock ! It was flooded and instead of looking at new books, we were given brooms and pails to clean up !! I am excited to go back this 17th morning with my classmates and school mates which I have never set foot in since I left in 1973. Oh my.... I'm looking for the classroom next to the toilet on the ground floor of the first block.
    See you guys.

  21. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM WHERE Mr. EDWARD THREW THE DUSTER ONTO MY FACE ;-))))

  22. Ted,
For the past 3 years, if i remember well, all the kids get free books. Which is good coz there were times when we faced a flood of parents on the first day pleading for text books. Maybe they didn't submit application forms the year before or some other obstacles. But we used to hand out the extras, on the sly... And the leftovers nowadays are sent to nearby schools which need them, with record at JPN. When a kid transfers within or out of Kch, to another govt sch, they must bring their books along coz the new sch will most likely have just enough for their original headcount.
    Thomas,
Waa, teacher threw duster at your face.. wonder if you were just talking[small matter] or ogling at amoi[these days we call parents in]. What do you think if i gave you guys colored chalk to write or decorate the blackboards on your visit, so that our kids will know that KTGSS equally-cheeky brood[no offence] HAD COME HOME. don't worry, you can say teacher ownself say can draw bah...
It's not that you guys are posting grafitti. Besides when you do it on the board, after hols, we can get our own kid photographer to record for posterity/ annual sch magazine, which we will give u admin guys copies this year end...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Poh, good idea about the chalk and we can create a page in the school magazine this year "When the pioneers come visiting...". We can throw duster at Thomas too!!!!

    Ted,
The floods are "a thing of the past" now. I remembered when I first started work (1984) there most teachers have a pair of wellington boots under the desk. lessons still have to go on. Block A have changed a lot to make way for development.Gone are most of the old toilets but I can still remember their location so you should be able to find your class. Hope you guys will not be too dissappointed to find a lot of things gone!

  24. Ted and Thomas,
The 'Lao Ti Farng' may have undergone many facelifts as IW said. But your lao sirs/maams are still around. They will turn up at night remember..
    Belle,
You get the wellies and me the chalk. Remember our boss' instruction, treat the pioneers like any VIP and make their homecoming unforgettable? Hope they perform some of their antics... Can get our own professional photographer FELIXON JAWING to cover the event.. please FJ, this is a rare glimpse into the students of yesteryear. Cast aside whatever you have tomorrow morning and take pix k?

  25. Dear Commitee Members Of PTA-KTGSS,

I am heart-felt by your active works done for the benefits of the School.

To raise some funds for the school projects, why not look for those collectible items related to the pasts of the school and auction them to any bidders.

I remember many arts, batiks and master-pieces done by us as students, were given to our teachers as gifts.

I,and many of us too, would love see them again or perhaps get them back if ex-teachers and ex-students of the 70s are willing to part them through a bidding to raise funds.

Perhaps, with those items recovered, they can be housed or displayed in a proposed school gallery as historical collections of KTGSS for future generations of the school to appreciate its humble beginings in the 70s era.

Hello there, anyone still has these old things and would like to contribute them to the fund-raising??

    -A suggestion from an Old-Townian-

    ReplyDelete
  26. To Poh Meng Eng... thks for your feedback... you have been doing great in the juggling.... we understand the school admin perimeter and the reasons why this matter is raised is to get all Townians to do something meaningfull ( after the BB..not Banyak Bising only..)hahahahaaa...
To FJ... pls take a few shots of those guys & school administrator infornt of the burnt down block... might need it for future reference (update doc..pls set the date of the pix taken.. thanks..

So oo many photos!! Some showed Thomas jostling to pose next to Rose, then David also wanted to kepit with the ladies, the 2 adorable schoolboys(give you 3 chances to guess who) trying to hide the skinny hairy legs.. too bad Samuel received 'a black mark'(did seem like black grease on his forehead); so we made him trot uphill-and-downhill alone.. no offence Sam, but i just could't butt in when the others were vying for your attention...

  31. Dear Teacher,

I was really looking forward to go back to KTGSS after 37 years. I left after Form 3 in 1973.
I came in through Chawan Road, gone were the gravel road and the fish pond on either sides of the road. I saw the first glimpse of the school which is now yellow and looked very different from the old whitewash. It was 8.45am and I was still early , I did not to be the first one to arrive, so I said to myself I better re-trace my route to school. I went to my old house at 510 Kenyalang Park and returned to school , on time before 9.00am , this time the only difference is I drove instead of cycling or by foot. Well, I came in light khaki shorts and white shirt trying to be a student again albeit carry extra baggage !! There were so many other 'students' chatting excitedly. We were gathered on the left corridor of the first block which is now the main entrance, our time was on the right. I recalled the spot just outside the Late Mrs Ngiam's office where I met my first friend, Albert Kho who coincidentally was also in my class, Form 1 Mars. On our first day in School in January 1973, it was flooded and we had to sweep and clean classrooms !! We went to the first floor classroom where we sat down and signed our names on the blackboard and took photographs. The desk looked so small for a six footer now. We went to the Library, same location except it is air-conditioned now. Our final destination was the School Hall which have been transformed , tiled floor, false ceiling, good sound/PA system and my, my ... it's air con now, what a luxury for the present students. We took our group photo, went to the Bilik Guru and signed the Visitors Book.
We bid goodbye to our beloved KTGSS and look anxiously to meet our ex-teachers, classmates and schoolmates at tonight's BB2010.

    Cheers.

Willie Sim 'checked-in' daily for the first 2 years in my tenure in KT. So, when he reported yesterday, it was also to give Isabella and me the latest update on his son, Joshua. Was Willie naughty?[but his boy was a very good student)... were you naughty too...
